  • We have wrapped up our programs for the spring, and will take the summer off.  We’ll start our regular meetings again in September.  Our first meeting will be a group effort.  Carry a camera with you for the summer and capture those special nature shots so that you can share them with us at the September meeting.  Slides, Prints, Digitals and Videos are welcome.  Put together about 10 minutes worth of your best.  We’ll see you in September.
  • Thursday, September 11, 2008 Member Program: The best of your summer. Slides, prints, digitals and videos from our members and guests summer vacations.  Bring about 10 minutes of photos to share with the others at the meeting.  7:15 PM in the Lilly Nature Center in West Lafayette.
You are invited to join other members for a carry in dinner before the meeting.  6:00 pm at the Lilly Nature Center.

    Sycamore Audubon Society

    Dear Neighbors.

My name is Dave Gevers. I manage a small farm south of Lafayette called Timberhouse Farm. We are upgrading a 60 acre plot of land that has been kept as wildlife habitat for about 30 years. We are adding several feeding plots for dear and some more cover for pheasants. In this plot and around the surrounding farm we have about 2 miles of trails, parts of which are being cleared further to have vehicle access.

Last summer, an Audubon lecturer from the Boston area (Dr. John Togut) recorded the following list of 67 varieties of birds seen or heard on our farm. This list includes a family of Pileated Woodpeckers that have been here for many years.

My question to the local Audubon Society is: Are you interested in using our area for any bird counts, outings, events, etc.? You are welcomed to come down and scout the place out. We are on E 950 S. between S. 200 E. and Concord Road (E. 350 S.). It is also called Timberhouse Aero Estates, as we have subdivided some of the farm into a “flying community” (home lots for sale adjacent to a grass runway).

Feel free to call me for more information or a tour.
